Within digital radiography, there are two types of systems the CR cassette-based system and cassette-less digital radiography system.

The cassette-less digital radiography system can be further broken down into indirect conversion and direct conversion systems.

The direct conversion digital radiography systems use a top semiconductor layer. This layer has the ability to convert inbound x-ray photons to electrical signals.

The indirect conversion digital radiography systems are further broken down into 2 categories. This category is the thin flat panel transistor (TFT) and the charged coupling gadget (CDC) system.

Both indirect conversion digital radiography systems use a top insulation layer. This top ordinary is used to transform the incoming x-ray photons to light photons.

This conversion of x-ray photons to light photons is how this digital radiography system gets its name as being indirect conversion.
