Benefits:
Noninvasive.
High spatial resolution.
Shows complicated vascular circulation.
Less susceptible to intravoxel dephasing.
Can be repeated if suboptimal.
Can be acquired after contrast.
Downsides:
Only little volumes due to significant saturation effects.
Can not image sluggish flow beacuse of saturation effects.
Time consuming prone to patient movement.
Artifact from T1 hyperintense lesions.
Clinical applications:
Routine to evaluate Circle of Willis for large vessel stenosis/ occlusion.
Can estimate carotid bifurcation stenosis.
