NVIDIA FlameWorks is a system for producing cinematic fire, smoke and surge effects for games. It integrates a state-of-the art grid-based fluid simulator with an effective volume rendering
engine.
The simulator uses a highly enhanced solver which allows the simulation of high resolution grids in real-time. It supports accidents with standard primitives and consists of a combustion
design for generating flame effects. The system is highly adjustable and supports user defined emitters, forcefields and accident things.
The GTC 2014 fire demonstration demonstrates the cinematic quality of fire/smoke together with ray marched reflections on the ground along with interaction with a sphere. The demonstration uses a 512 x256 x256 voxel grid, indicating that 32 M voxels are upgraded every frame and performs at more than 30 fps on a GeForce 780 TI.
For real video game use cases the voxel grid size is scalable and can be used with lower resolutions.
No Particles were utilized in the making of the demo.
