This collection of short stories includes the exploits of Raffles, the gentleman burglar, who dedicates different thefts from rich members of British high society. The stories are examples of the inverted secret format. Raffles is, in numerous ways, an intentional inversion of Sherlock Holmes. Like Holmes, he considers himself an amateur, rather than expert, and like Holmes he is accompanied by a Watson who chronicles his experiences– Harry “Bunny” Manders. Raffles is likewise a master of disguise.
