J. van der Plaats has been popular to radiologists in the English speaking world for more than three decades. He has been, and still is, respected by them for his vision, his thoroughness, determination and careful attention to detail and for his continuous enthusiasm. The requirement of radiography in the Netherlands throughout this period has been acknowledged as being of the highest quality, and this has, in no small procedure, been due to the pattern set by Teacher van der Plaats and his coworkers.
