Amazon-Backed Smart Glasses For $1,000: First Look

featured image

A start-up called North, formally Thalmic Labs, is introducing a pair of wise glasses that it thinks will interest the masses because the style looks so similar to typical glasses. They’re called Focals, and they cost around $1,000

Focals link to your phone via Bluetooth and have a small projector that beams data into the wearer’s eyes. They can inform the wearer the weather condition or time, read text and even order an Uber. The glasses are also connected to Alexa, so if you can ask for instructions or information, a little speaker will tell you the answers.

North has actually raised over $140 million from financiers including the Amazon Alexa Fund, Glow Capital, Intel Capital and Y Combinator.
