Today, we’ll be going over pulmonary edema as seen on a chest x ray and all the differentials you should be considering when seeing this type of x-ray.
When there is lung edema on chest x-ray it’s generally from an interruption in Starling Forces. Now, I will not get into excessive detail. Basically there is too much pressure in the pulmonary arteries, causing a disturbance in osmotic pressure, pressing fluid and proteins out into the alveolar space, leading to hypoxemia and shortness of breath..
There are two causes of pulmonary edema:.
– Cardiogenic.
– Non-cardiogenic.
