Chief Reid Bennett and his “super-sleuth” pet take on the criminal offenses of Murphy’s Harbor in this “fairly strong, small-town tale, with peaceful appeal” (Kirkus Reviews). In tiny Murphy’s Harbour, where Reid Bennett works as the one‐man police force, questions and dead bodies tend to pile up simultaneously. The early morning starts with Reid chasing after off a gang of threatening teens with a baseball bat. Minutes later on, Reid finds out that a bank burglar may be headed his way trying to find vengeance. But the day does not actually begin rolling until Reid discovers a dead woman in the trunk of a waterlogged automobile. What follows is a fast‐paced thriller involving rich attorneys, a questionable film manufacturer, and quite a few moving identities. Everybody seems to be circling everybody else in a complex orbit of sex and cash. Can all these occasions be tied together?
