The internet went mainstream, video games went from sprite-based graphics to 3D polygonal graphics, and PCs went from being primarily DOS-based to primarily Windows-based. As all these amazing leaps in technology happened, marketing companies did everything they could to get consumers excited about the latest and greatest tech.
